About this deal

The operating temperature shows the safe temperature range (from minimum to maximum), within which the display will function flawlessly. Outside this range it might operate improperly and/or fail entirely. The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10. The resolution of 2,560 × 1,080 called WFHD Pixels ensures a pixel density of around 94 ppi at 29.5 inches. 27-inch monitors with 2,560 × 1,440 pixels have a higher pixel density of 109 ppi. The MSI model is therefore more comparable with a 31.5-inch WQHD display (2,560 × 1,440 pixels) that achieves 93 ppi. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used.

The MSI MAG301RF is the first 30″ 2560×1080 ultrawide monitor with a fast 1ms GtG pixel response time speed and a high refresh rate, which is why it’s perfect for competitive gaming. Further, the IPS panel ensures 178° wide viewing angles for flawless image quality regardless of the angle you’re looking at the screen. Additionally, the response time of Rapid IPS display is shortened to 1 ms GTG due to the liquid crystal molecules which rotate with the speed 4x faster than normal ones. The crystal clear image will certainly. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively.

The colors are vivid, consistent and accurate, covering the entire sRGB color space with minor extension beyond it (105% sRGB). The stand of the monitor is sturdy and ergonomic with up to 130mm height adjustment, -5°/20° tilt, +/- 45° swivel and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility. Ultrawide monitors, such as the MSI Optix MAG301RF, offer a much wider POV and fill your entire peripheral vision. Furthermore, because of the monitor's FHD capabilities, details are crisp and sharp throughout the entire display. This provides an incredibly immersive experience that will make gaming an absolute pleasure. Gaming HUB MSI's Optix MAG301RF features an IPS panel with a size of 29.5 inches diagonally and a variable refresh rate of up to 200 Hz. The monitor is officially G-Sync compatible and also supports Adaptive Sync for AMD graphics cards, although MSI doesn't explicitly mention this. This allows users of all graphics card manufacturers to take advantage of the screen's potential. There were no problems with either AMD or Nvidia in the test. The refresh rate is variable in the range from 48 to 200 Hz. The horizontal and vertical viewing angles are 178 degrees each. The panel has a resolution of 2560 × 1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 21: 9 and, according to MSI, a response time of 1 ms gray to gray. The contrast should be typical for IPS at 1,000: 1, the manufacturer only specifies the brightness at 300 cd/m², which is comparatively low. The test person is not HDR-certified, but can process HDR signals. In view of the low luminance, this is only relevant for marketing, because it is not enough for HDR effects in everyday life. To start, I love how much more I can see compared to a normal monitor. It really makes a difference to the immersion when gaming.

Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS). In the past, if you wanted a fast ultrawide gaming monitor, you had to settle for a 34″ sized screen (which many find too big for competitive gaming) or one with the 3440×1440 screen resolution, which is substantially more demanding on your PC than 2560×1080, resulting in lower frame rate and choppier performance. Besides being easy on your CPU/GPU, the 2560×1080 resolution of the MSI MAG301RF monitor also results in a decent pixel density of 94 PPI (pixels per inch). So, details and text are sharp and you get a decent amount of screen real estate. The MSI MAG301RF is a 30″ flat-screen ultrawide gaming monitor with a 2560×1080 screen resolution, a 200Hz refresh rate, a 1ms GtG response time speed, an IPS panel, AMD FreeSync (G-SYNC Compatible) and MBR (Motion Blur Reduction)!Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. Alternatively, you can use the MSI Gaming OSD application. Once installed, you can run this application regularly from your PC or via the ‘macro’ hotkey on the left side of the screen.

For the connections, the monitor relies on a DisplayPort 1.2a and two HDMI 2.0b inputs. With a native resolution of 2,560 × 1,080 pixels, 200 Hz can only be achieved via the DisplayPort. A maximum refresh rate of 180 Hz is possible via the HDMI inputs. The console mode used by MSI in more and more new monitors allows up to 120 Hz for current game consoles via HDMI. Without HDMI 2.1 and UHD, the test subject cannot exploit the potential of the new consoles. Ergonomics Information about the ergonomic functions - height adjustment, swivel angles, tilt angles, etc. VESA mount Input lag is imperceptible at ~2ms of delay and there’s an optional MPRT motion blur reduction implementation. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage.

While the MSI MAG301RF has a 29.5″ viewable screen in diagonal, its 21:9 aspect ratio actually makes it as tall as a regular 24″ 16:9 monitor, just with ~33% extra width. The image quality is pretty good. The colors are not the best I have seen, but for me that doesn't really make too much of a difference. The image also doesn't look pixelated, even compared to screens with much higher pixel density. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe.
